Loading contentDidier Queloz was a doctoral student of Michel Mayor when, in 1995, their spectrograph revealed the tell-tale wobble of 51 Pegasi caused by an orbiting giant planet — the first exoplanet around a Sun-like star. He has since remained a leader in exoplanet science and the search for life, sharing the 2019 Nobel Prize.
